The best in acoustic music: contemporary and traditional folk, country, blues, comedy, jazz & standards
Every other Monday (closed during July & August) 8.00 p.m. - 10.30 p.m.
Held at The Warwick Arms Hotel, High Street, Warwick CV34 4AT
We’ve enjoyed a number of first-time visitors over
the last few months and tonight it was Steven and
Julie Wigley from Derby. They did a couple of
originals and two songs by other writers, one
being “Tequila Sunset” by Ralph McTell,
using some delicate playing and
harmonies on all their songs.
Two of our regular female singers entertained
us: Maggie Coleman who did “Handsome
Molly” and Laura Kisby who did a song by
Cara Dillon (who she’d seen the previous
night) and it was she who did Joni Mitchell’s
“Big Yellow Taxi”.
There was a relaxed end-of-term feeling for the last
Performers’ Night before the summer break.
We heard quite a few chart songs done in folk style,
such as “Sunny Afternoon” (which it had not been)
“Gentle On My Mind”, “You’ve Got A Friend” and
“Big Yellow Taxi” plus some reminiscences of
events in the 60’s.
